Local Author Submissions
We love our Kansas City writing community. Our shelves are small and carefully curated, so we cannot stock most submissions. We do not offer consignment. Instead, we review local work quarterly and select a small number of titles that are a great fit for our shop and readers.
How It Works
-
Submit for review. Use our Local Author Submission Form with details about your book, distribution, and wholesale terms.
-
Quarterly review. We review submissions once per quarter.
-
Selection and next steps. If selected, we will reach out with ordering details. If not selected, please feel free to submit again in the future with new work.
What We Look For
-
Strong alignment with our customers and categories
-
Professional editing, design, and ISBN
-
Clear wholesale availability through a distributor or direct invoice
-
Recent publication date or timely local interest
-
Paperback or hardcover in excellent condition
What We Cannot Accommodate
-
Consignment arrangements
-
Drop-in pitches or hand-off review copies in the café
-
Bulk deliveries without prior approval
-
Titles with unclear pricing or no wholesale option
Ordering and Terms
If your title is selected, we will purchase on standard wholesale terms and place a small initial order to fit our space. Reorders depend on sales velocity. Payment is made per invoice terms upon delivery.
Events and Signings
Event slots are very limited. Selecting a title for the shelf does not guarantee an event. If an event makes sense for our calendar and audience, we will reach out with details.
Timing and Communication
We aim to respond to each submission within a few weeks after the quarterly review period closes. If you do not hear from us, your title was not selected for that cycle. You are welcome to resubmit in a future quarter.
Thank You
Thank you for thinking of The Book Club. We are honored to be part of a vibrant local scene, and we appreciate every author who shares their work with us.
